History
KADAP Inc. (Kawerau and Districts Ageing in Place) started in November 2015 after a group of locals noticed gaps in services that made it harder for older residents to stay in their own homes. Whether renting or owning, many people just needed a bit of extra help to keep living independently. The founding members developed the concept by drawing inspiration from international research and adding their own local ideas. It was the first initiative of its kind in New Zealand and its benefits quickly became clear.
Kawerau has a population of 7,820, with 22.1% aged 65 and over—higher than the national average of 16.5%*. This makes it an ideal place for an organisation like KADAP to thrive. The organisation now has over 300 members and more than 80 people registered as volunteers who can lend a hand with everyday tasks, so people can stay in their homes for longer, keep their independence, and stay socially connected. Many members also volunteer, offering help where they can give it, and receiving help where they need it.

KADAP is an Incorporated Society with Charitable trust status, governed by a team of dedicated Board Members. They employ a Co-ordinator and have a team of skilled, police-vetted volunteers who help bring everything to life.
